February Meeting – Water Chemistry

We will be kicking off our educational meeting series with a presentation on water.

Many times we overlook water when it comes to brewing our beers. But the fact is around 90% of beer is made up of water. The ions in your water can enhance the bittering characteristics and increase body. They can also bring with them bad off flavors. Here in Salt Lake we generally have good water for brewing. That doesn’t mean that you should completely ignore it though. Water chemistry can be a complex subject. We are not going to go too deep into it this meeting. The goal of this session is to get everyone thinking about their water, why you would want to adjust it, and if you want, how you can go about it. This is information that could make your good beer even better.

If you have had your water tested, please send us your water report prior to the February meeting.

The presentation will be followed by informal beer tastings. Bring whatever home brews you are interested in sharing and getting feedback on. We will also tap our second pin cask beer!

The Meeting will be taking place at Vince’s in South Jordan, on Sunday February 9th at 4:30 PM.

The address is 1913 West 10740 South,  South Jordan. However we ask everyone not to turn onto 10740 S. but instead drive over to the park directly behind his house. See the instructions below.

Follow the road into the park, stay to the right and look for the playground. Park in the lot next to the playground.
